My latest findings!

I went to the St. Vincent de Paul's Speciality Auction (off Market Street) for the first time yesterday, and boy, was it fabulous! If you've never gone, you really should consider it. They have it about every 3 months or so (I'll post the date of the next auction as soon as I get it). It was a little confusing. They had 2 auctions going on at the same time - a seated auction (for dishes, jewelery, and misc.) and a standing auction (for furniture). They were going on at the same time, so it was a little distracting, at first. If you wanted to bid on something in both auctions, you had to bring somebody along. I was bidding on a pair of chairs (which I won!) in the standing auction. The auctioneer was conducting the auction in both English and Spanish. The auctions begin at 2 p.m. and the stop the auctions at 3:30 p.m. to start auctioning off the outside stuff (cars, outdoor patio furniture, bikes, etc.). When the outside auction is finished, then they continue the standing and seated auctions. Instead of starting with a low price and work up, here they start high and work down (if no bidders) and work back up (if bidders). And they also have a set amount for each item, which they won't go below. Items on which no one bids, are marked "Pass." You can buy these items the next day for this price, but you better be there early ( a lot of competition)! Keep checking back for further information on future auctions!!
I almost forgot - I got 2 of these Mission-Style rocking chairs (see picture) at the auction for $175 total! What a deal!

Old for new light bulbs
I went to the Santee Expo today and SDG&E had a booth where you could trade in your old standard bulbs for new energy efficient blubs. You could trade in up to 5 light bulbs per households. You could also trade in an old halogen lamp for a new energy efficient torchiere lamp (up to 2 per household). I traded in 5 old lightbulbs and got 5 new energy efficient bulbs for free. I didn't have a halogen lamp, so I went to the Salvation Army (which was across the street) to see if they had one. They had one for $25, which I thought was a bit high. I was able to negotiate it down to $10 and then traded in that lamp for a brand new one. Not bad, huh? If you're interested in learning more about SDG&E's lightbulb event, here is the link: http://www.sdge.com/residential/turninEvents.shtml

Boy I love GTM!

I jut purchased this watch at a fabulous store called GTM. It's in Santee. If you've never been, you must plan on going. They get returned item from Costco and other stores. GTM does have a following, so it does get crowded, especially on weekends. At GTM you can find everything from tv's to appliances to clothes to food and more, all at a great price. For example, this watch, which I purchased on Saturday, is at Costco for $99. GTM had it for $79. And with GTM's 25% discount coupon, which they run every so often on their Web site, brought the price down to $59! Now that's a bargain!
